Welcome and Looking Ahead

My name is Penny Folsom. Welcome to my website! My two passions are: helping children learn and enjoying nature. For the past ten years I have been providing workshops to educators and other adults interested in connecting children (and families) to the natural world. With the nature movement in full swing, I have decided it's time to be "online official!"

I have worked at the Phyllis Fratzke Early Childhood Lab, a part of Grand Rapids Community College, for 26 years. It is an environment that offers a unique opportunity for me to interact with college students and young children. College students enrolled in the Child Development curriculum receive hands-on experience with infants, toddlers and preschoolers enrolled in childcare at the center. College students learn in our model early childhood program under the supervision of highly qualified myself!

My husband Dan and I recently celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary. We have two grown sons, two lovely daughters-in-laws and two beautiful grandchildren. Ava is 3, and David is 8. I love visiting them as often as possible. I also enjoy sharing my love of nature with them. You are likely to hear more about them in the future.

Please check back for more posts about exploring nature (getting over the “fear factor”), early childhood education, age appropriate activities for young children, upcoming workshops and much more. Now, go outside and play!
